About
Hollywood Downtowner
Hollywood Downtowner is a 2-star property situated 500 metres from the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre and steps from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The hotel keeps things simple: free Wi-Fi throughout, an outdoor pool, and private parking for USD 10 per day. Guests consistently point to the location as the main draw — you're within walking distance of the TCL Chinese Theatre and Dolby Theater, and the subway's red line is a few minutes away, connecting you to the rest of the city.
Rooms come with practical extras like a kitchen or kitchenette, microwave, fridge, and tea and coffee facilities — handy for longer stays or self-catering. The front desk runs 24 hours, and security is on-site around the clock. While the hotel is not fancy, it's clean, well-kept, and staff are repeatedly described as friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is served at an adjacent spot, though experiences there have been mixed — worth knowing if you plan to rely on it.

In brief
What works, what to weigh
Strengths
4 reasons to book- Unbeatable Hollywood location — Guests consistently praise the central spot — a short walk to the Walk of Fame, TCL Chinese Theatre, and Dolby Theater, with the subway's red line nearby for easy city-wide access.
- Friendly and attentive staff — Multiple reviews highlight courteous, efficient staff who go out of their way — from holding bags after checkout to speaking Spanish.
- Practical rooms with kitchen facilities — Many rooms include a kitchen or kitchenette with microwave, fridge, and tea/coffee kit — ideal for self-catering or longer stays.
- Free Wi-Fi and parking options — Free Wi-Fi is mentioned as a plus, and while parking costs USD 10 per day, it's available on site — a convenience in central LA.
Worth weighing
4 to weigh- Breakfast experience can disappoint — Breakfast is served at an adjacent restaurant (Catch 56), and one guest described the service as rude and unhelpful, with limited options. Others found it fine, but it's inconsistent.
- Rooms are simple and basic — This is a 2-star property with no frills. Some guests note it's simple but clean, and the lack of extra amenities may not suit those expecting more.
- Paid parking adds to cost — Private parking is available but costs USD 10 per day — some guests mentioned "free parking" but the input states a fee, so budget accordingly.
- Busy area with potential noise — Located on Hollywood Boulevard in a busy tourist zone, the area can be lively and noisy — light sleepers might want earplugs.

7.5Verified guest“The accommodation is original and ideal, with friendly reception staff. Breakfast offers a wide variety of great food. The location is excellent, close to public transport and within walking distance of local sights, Griffith Observatory, and central LA — though it is a busy area.”
7.5Verified guest“The room was fine and came with a large kitchen and a patio. A microwave and fridge were provided on arrival. The staff were courteous and efficient day and night.”
7.5Verified guest“The location was very central, close to a bus stop.”
7.5Verified guest“The hotel is simple but clean (room 17). The best part is the location — a step away from the Walk of Fame and Sunset Blvd. Staff are attentive, one girl speaks Spanish, and they held our bags until the night on the last day. Overall, good value for money. However, breakfast should be relocated — it's served at a nearby place called Catch 56, and the staff there (especially Steve Young) are arrogant, repetitive, and unprofessional. Waffles, toast, hamburgers, and beaten eggs are on offer, but don't ask for anything different — he ignores you. One day you ask for hot milk and get it, the next day he ignores you unless you tip well, and he takes the Oreo away so you don't take more. To repeat, the hotel is fine; breakfast would be better if they changed the venue or didn't offer it at all.”
7.5Verified guest“The location was convenient because the subway's red line is a few minutes away and connects you to everything. For $25 you can get a weekly TAP card for the subway and buses.”
